How to stay in control of your mind.

Updated: May 8, 2023

Life can be challenging, and we are often faced with problems that can seem overwhelming. However, we can learn to cope with these problems by using the coping methods we've learned from family, parents, and friends. These methods can be stored in a "ways and means box" to be used when we need them. However, sometimes, the coping mechanisms that we have learned are not the most effective, and we find ourselves using negative behavior patterns that we learned as children.

Negative behavior patterns such as anger, jealousy, aggression, fear, or anxiety are automatic responses that come from our primitive brain or our reptilian brain. This part of the brain is responsible for the "fight, flight or depression" response, which is only focused on keeping us alive. It does not have any compassion, analyze situations or emotions, or have any creative abilities. These negative responses can cause problems and trouble in our lives, and we need to take control of them.

Hypnotherapy is a state of trance where we can talk directly to the intellectual part of our brain, the prefrontal cortex. This part of the brain has the ability to analyze situations, consider all the options, and make rational decisions. It is not preoccupied with emotions, chemical reactions, fear, or anger. During hypnotherapy, the primitive brain sleeps, and we can re-evaluate negative behaviors and replace them with more rational, less damaging alternatives.

By using hypnotherapy, we can maintain a strong intellectual control of our lives and push the primitive brain back from those activities where it's not needed, where it's probably just going to cause trouble. We can overcome negative behaviors and live our lives effectively, successfully, and happily.
